Alison Kruss won the Illinois State Fiddle Championship at the tender age of 12 mixing country and bluegrass. Then in 1987 she began recording with the Union Station band. Remember that Alison doesn't sing on all the tracks. The vocal duties are passed around among mandolinist Adam Steffey, guitarist Dan Tyminski, and banjo man Ron Block. All in all, Alison Krauss & Union Station is the best contemporary bluegrass act recording today with eight studio albums to their credit.
