Storming out of San Francisco in 1969, The New Riders' were initially a vehicle for the Grateful Dead to indulge their taste for country-rock. But with John Dawson writing all the songs on the incredible first album, the group became its own entity regulating Jerry Garcia, Phil Lech and Commander Cody as mere side musicians. They released an album a year in the 70's before permanently breaking up in 1982.
