Back "Tuesday Morning AM/FM Show" Playlist for January 6, 2009 THEME: Best Albums of '08 For your consideration, here are my selections for the best albums of 2008. This is the third year that I've compiled this list. As with all other editions, WMUH did not receive several key CDs from established artists like Loudon Wainwright III and his daughter, Nick Low, Ray Davies and Eliza Carthy, so they could not be reviewed for this best of show. Thousands of CDs each year are sent to WMUH. Of that staggering amount, I probably listened to more than a third of them. There were many strong candidates last year so I reluctantly dropped a few deserving artists. Since music is the elixir of the soul hearing these great songs should keep you in high spirits throughout the day. Honorable Mention: Her Space Holiday - November's XOXO, Panda And The New Kid Revival Dark Dark Dark - November's The Snow Magic Shawn Mullins - April's Honeydew Hearts Of Palm UK - September's For Life 25) Supergrass - Rebel In You - 4:41 from March's Diamond Hoo Ha 24) McCarthy Trenching - Scoop Shovel Blues - 4:09 from September's Calamity Drenching 23) Doctors & Dealers - Snow Child - 2:13 from April's Confessions Of A Drunken Mind 22) El Perro del Mar - Somebody's Baby - 2:29 from April's From The Valley To The Stars 21) Old War Shirt - Where To Go - 2:35 from September's Nighttime Songs Under The Stars Of San Raphel 20) Mason Jennings - I Love You And Buddha Too - 2:15 from September's In The Ever 19) Bourgeois Gypsies - Train Song - 3:43 from October's Faulty Fairytales 18) Kate Nash - We Get On - 4:34 from January's Made Of Bricks 17) Jonathan Richman - Time Has Gone By So Fast - 2:49 from April's Because Her Beauty Is Raw and Wild 16) The Wood Brothers - Walk Away - 4:13 from March's Loaded 15) The Kills - Cheap and Cheerful - 2:26 from February's Midnight Boom 14) The Royal We - All The Rage - 3:00 from August's The Royal We 13) Amanda Palmer - Ampersand - 5:58 from September's Who Killed Amanda Palmer? 12) Akron/Family - Don't Be Afraid, You're Already Dead - 4:36 from February's Love Is Simple 11) The Younger Sister Band - Goodbye NY - 4:26 from November's The Lady Wins Again 10) Ray LaMontagne - Henry Nearly Killed Me (It's A Shame) - 4:25 from October's Gossip In The Grain 9) Grey Anne - Riddle - 3:31 from November's Facts N Figurines 8) Fleet Foxes - He Doesn't Know Why - 3:20 from June's Fleet Foxes 7) Jenny Lewis - See Fernando - 3:33 from September's Acid Tongue 6)The Gentle Guest - She Devil - 3:29 from October's We Are Bound To Save Some Souls Tonight 5) Bon Iver - Skinny Love - 3:58 from February's For Emma, Forever Ago {A man with his guitar offers the best in alternate folk for 2008.} 4) Vampire Weekend - Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa - 3:34 from January's Vampire Weekend - Campus - 2:56 {Unique application of world music beats combined with hooky pop rhythms has this New York City band at the forefront of the new music scene.} 3) Lykke Li - Little Bit - 4:33 from August's Youth Novels - Let It Fall - 2:42 {This brilliant Swedish artist cut a CD full of surprise and outstanding music.} 2) The Felice Brothers - Frankie's Gun! - 4:06 from February's The Felice Brothers - Helen Fry - 5:44 {This road band from upstate New York crafted a roots album that consistently delivers fine musicianship along with quirky vocals and offbeat lyrics.} 1) Luthea Salom - Dragonfly - 3:20 from February's Sunbeam Surrounded By Winter - Beautiful - 3:52 {Luthea is a European Gypsy born in Spain.
