Uncle Tupelo was so inventive that a whole genre was named after their first album - No Depression. This alternative country/punk rock band was created by three high school buddies from Belleville, IL - Jay Farrar, Jeff Tweedy and Mike Heidorn. Eventually settling into a folk rock sound, most of their original lyrics fixate on life in the Midwest. Any of the four CDs they released from 1990 to 1993 will stun you into full listen mode.
