FEATURED ARTIST: The Velvet Underground
Lou Reed, John Cale, Sterling Morrison, and Maureen Tucker formed The Velvet Underground in 1965 rehearsing and performing in New York City. Theirs is an experimental rock sound that influenced punk rock in the late 70's and alt rock in the mid 90's. Andy Warhol managed the band through their first album creating the banana album cover. Even though Cale was forced out after the second album the real demise of The Velvet Underground came in August 1970 when Reed left the group. They released four studio recordings during their five year heyday and one live album. In the mid 80's a fifth studio album, held up because of label disputes, was finally released.
