Cincinnati's Afghan Whigs fit snuggly into the alternative rock category. Their cult popularity peaked in the early nineties in direct relations to the creation of that genre. Chief songwriters guitarist/singer Greg Dulli and guitarist Rick McCollum fused punk rock with rhythm and blues creating their unique alt rock sound. They released six albums in the ten year span beginning in 1988.
